Sunrise from the Surface of Gliese 581c (4.06)Karen Wehrstein created an artistic representation of a sunrise on Gliese 581c, the most Earth-like planet known. It lies more than twenty light-years away. Though it has five times the mass of Earth, it was found that the oceans could have possibly sustained life.
Carina Nebula Panorama from Hubble (4.05) Carina's Great Nebula, NGC 3372, is very active. It is 300 light years long and about 7,500 light-years away. The most energetic star, Eta Carinae, was one of the brightest in the 1830s. The Keyhole Nebula is seen towards the left. This picture was taken by the Hubble and remains the most detailed.
Water Claimed in Evaporating Planet HD 209458b (4.05) This is an artistic rendition of HD 209458b evaporating because the surface temperature is too great. This is just a theory of what would happen, but it still remains quite controversial. It is known as Hot Jupiter, though it has an orbit similar to that of Mercury.
Aurora Over Alaska (4.04) Between 60 and 1000 kms are the lights of the auroras. They are caused by solar shockwaves that cause both protons and electrons to strike the Earth's atmospheric molecules. Around Earth's magnetic poles, the aurora appears to be circular. this picture was taken at the Bear Lakes, Alaska in January 2005. It won the Wiki Commons Picture of the Year in 2006.

On Wednesday night, I saw a really weird object in the sky. I was on my way home from a rehearsal when it was dark out. I looked ^ at the sky randomly, as it is good to do when you're driving, and saw this bright object that was much larger than any "shooting star" I had ever seen. For this reason, I didn't think it was a meteor or meteorite, but maybe a satellite. It streaked across the sky and left a light trail because it was so bright against the night sky. I guess I'll deem it a UFO, considering I still am not sure what it was. Probably evil brain-sucking alien parasites.
Americans Defeat Russians in First Space Quidditch Match (4.04) The astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria caught the first documented snitch in muggle history last night, winning a victory over the Russians. To quote Lopez, "The Russians used brilliant strategy, but only NASA had the T2KQMU (Thunderbolt 2000 Quidditch Maneuvering Unit)."

A Blue Crescent Moon from Space (4.03) In July 2006, the crescent moon was captured here from space. The moon appears blue due to the Earth's atmosphere because air molecules scatter blue light more easily. part of the moon appears to fade away because the moonlight is being reflected by the air molecules. The higher the space, the more it fades to black. This was taken from the International Space Station.
Eclipse with Lighthouse (4.02) On March 3rd, a red moon of a total lunar eclipse rose over Cape Code, MA. This is from the Highland (cape Code) Lighthouse that is 66ft tall and was built in 1857. Normally two eclipses can be seen every year at this view.
